This small craft uses roughly fifty folded paper cranes to create a cheerful treatment around a ceiling light. The materials are simple: origami paper, fishing line and clear beads.
Assembly
Fold the cranes in the colors you want, then thread several onto each length of fishing line. Knotted clear beads act as stops and keep the cranes spaced apart. Repeating the same number and approximate spacing on each strand gives the finished shade a balanced shape.
Arrange the strands evenly around the light. Rainbow order makes the color movement obvious, while white or warm neutral paper would produce a quieter version. The original pair of shades used inexpensive materials and was completed over several short folding sessions.
Safety note: Keep paper well clear of bulbs and other heat sources, and use only a cool-running fixture with adequate clearance.
